Historical Background

Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura (1874-1937) was the son of Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura and the spiritual master of Srila Prabhupada. He established 64 Gaudiya Mathas worldwide and vigorously preached against sahajiyaism and impersonalism. His powerful preaching and establishment of the Gaudiya Matha set the stage for ISKCON.

Spiritual Significance

He was a powerful preacher who fearlessly established the supremacy of Krishna consciousness. His emphasis on combining book distribution with preaching became the model for ISKCON's missionary work.
