Historical Background

The Panihati Chida-Dahi Utsav commemorates the famous pastime where Lord Nityananda Prabhu, along with His associates, sat under a tree in Panihati (near Kolkata) and distributed chida (flattened rice) and dahi (yogurt) to everyone. Ragunatha dasa Gosvami, who was then a young boy from a wealthy family, was initiated into devotional service on this day.

This festival demonstrates Nityananda Prabhu's unlimited mercy and His ability to attract anyone to devotional service, regardless of their background. It teaches the importance of humble association with pure devotees.
