Historical Background
The Panihati Chida-Dahi Utsav commemorates the famous pastime where Lord Nityananda Prabhu, along with His associates, sat under a tree in Panihati (near Kolkata) and distributed chida (flattened rice) and dahi (yogurt) to everyone. Ragunatha dasa Gosvami, who was then a young boy from a wealthy family, was initiated into devotional service on this day.
