Historical Background
After Vasudeva brought baby Krishna to Gokula, Nanda Maharaja celebrated the birth of his son with great joy, not knowing the child was the Supreme Lord Himself. He distributed gifts, fed the brahmanas, and performed grand celebrations. This festival is celebrated the day after Janmashtami.
Spiritual Significance
Nandotsava demonstrates the pure love of the Vrajavasis for Krishna. Although Nanda Maharaja thought Krishna was his son, his love was actually transcendental. The festival reminds us of the joyful mood of Krishna's appearance.
