HH Indradyumna Swami reflects on public street kirtan, visiting Mother Teresa's memorial, and preaching to the Prime Minister in Skopje, Macedonia.
Skopje and Mother Teresa
Arriving in Skopje, I visited Mother Teresa's memorial house. I was so touched by a farewell poem she wrote in 1928, leaving Europe for steamy Bengal, that I had to sit down. It was true to the spirit of a missionary's life, a life I chose by taking sannyasa. Devotees then went to the city square for public street kirtan, distributing prasada sweets to the warm and welcoming Macedonian public.
The Prime Minister's Presence
That evening, I gave a lecture at the outdoor amphitheater. During my talk, I noticed heavy-set men with security ear-wires. Later, I learned that the Prime Minister of the country had attended the entire lecture, standing at the entrance. He sent a message saying he loved the talk. As Srila Prabhupada wrote, describing Krishna and holding discourses creates an auspicious atmosphere.
